My Work
College HNC
I started college in August 2017 in Coatbridge, this was my first introduction to web development. I learned a great deal about myself and found myself to be very ambitious after years of having zero ambitions in life. I developed myself as a person and grew up loads within this year.
I learned basic foundations of skills for the following:
- HTML
- CSS
- JavaScript
- PHP
- MySQL
- C#
- WordPress
- Adobe Suite (Ps, Ai, Ae)
On top of this I learned colour theory and how to look at websites differently to how I looked at them before. Most importantly I made tons of mistakes and learned from each and every one of them.
I finished this course with an A based on a final written exam.
College HND
I started this a few months after completing my HNC, in August 2018 in Motherwell. I got to know new people and I learned loads in this year. I have developed more in myself and my abilities this past year. I interviewed for a commercial placement in Made in Scotland Agency, through college and was successful in November 2018. This and college taught me loads more about myself and helped me add to my skills.
I added to my basic skills and was introduced to the following new skills:
- jQuery
- SASS
- .NET
- Math for Computing
I learned so much more in addition to the previous year. I wish I learned SASS the prior year as with PHP includes, it makes making websites extremely fast during development and testing. My colleagues taught me to be more subtle with colours and enhanced my PhotoShop skills. My placement taught me loads of life and business lessons of what to do as well as what not to do.
I finished this course with an A (91%) based on my NRFG project.
University
I went to University West of Scotland Paisley, doing a degree in Web & Mobile Development. I started this in September 2019 and graduated in August 2022 with my Honours Degree.
In 3rd year I have expanded on my previous knowledge and learned more new languages. I have learned:
- Java – Android Studio
- SQL
University was different to my expectations where there is no involvement in the front-end but it does touch upon it in different ways. However, presentation was not the main focus on this course, it was all aimed at development which is very different from everything I had done previously. I finished 3rd year uni with an A (Grade 3.0).
In 4th year again most of the work is offline, AWS or presentations mostly made on Teams due to Covid/lockdown. My 4th year had to be taken over 2 years through personal reasons. I am only able to showcase some of the uni projects but I learnt alot with my time in uni. I finished my Honours Degree with a 2:1.
My Own Projects
This section is for my own projects. I have a couple in the wind I have yet to finish but hoping I will find the time somewhere.
The most recent project I am working on is BKB website from my HNC with Oxygen builder so I can get used to knowing how it works and limitations for my work. Currently incomplete so link will not work until I have content.
